Win a Free Registration to Toronto Pastors Conference

So far we have half a dozen great books to give the first 100 registrants to TPC.  And if you would like to be one of those first 100 you had best hurry up and register!  Spaces are starting to fill up quickly.

I mentioned earlier this week that we are arranging to give away some books for free thanks to some great publishers and some help from my buddy Heinz at Sola Scriptura Ministries.

Here is a little contest to win yourself a free registration to TPC.  Be the first person to guess one of the books we are giving away and you win!  It is that easy.  I will keep this contest open until we have a winner.

Rules?
  1. You can enter as much as you like by leaving your guess in the comments section.  But only ONE guess per comment.
  2. You cannot enter if you are a member of GFC or you somehow already know what we are giving away.  That is called unfair!
  3. I will judge by time stamp on the submissions, so even if I am away from my computer for a while we will still have a means to determine the winner.
  4. I will give a hint after 3 days if no one has won yet.

Beatles' Toronto press conference tape for sale

CBC News - Toronto - Beatles' Toronto press conference tape for sale

Everything happens in Toronto. See!

It is believed to be the only audio record of the press conference Lennon and Paul McCartney gave between the first and second show of their 1966 appearance at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto.

Bonham & Butterfields estimates the tape will sell for $20,000 to $25,000 US.

The press conference at the King Edward Hotel focused on a then recent remark Lennon had made that the Beatles "were more popular than Jesus." The boast raised a furor from the Vatican and from conservative groups in North America, where the Beatles were touring.

Full

There is a lot coming down the pipe in the next month or so. I will be preaching at the Sovereign Grace Youth Retreat at the end of May. Then I am off to The Elisha Foundation Family Retreat in Oregon two days after I get back. Then I come home for a few days before the Toronto Pastors Conference with Mike Bullmore.

All in all, I will preach around 12 times in three weeks, none of it repeated, so I don’t mind if you pray for me and the family.

I did want to remind you of The Elisha Foundation though. This great ministry is funded entirely by donations – my family loves to send our money here (and so does our church family!). And you can join the blessing. Help send families who serve special needs kids to a long weekend respite. TEF will care for the entire family for free, using volunteers and your donations. You can donate online in a just a few clicks and get your tax receipt to boot.

Pray and give.... how very Gospel-ish!

Consider Jesus...

“Therefore, holy brothers, you who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession…”

All you have to do to spiritually drift is nothing. And like all forms of drift, we are usually unaware of the motion.

When you are sitting in a boat out at sea without an anchor or a compass, land tends to be the only thing that exposes your drifting. So, you pick a spot on the shoreline, grab your oars and aim for that.

Christians need to learn to regularly look to Jesus. “Consider Jesus,” says this author. Set your thoughts on him, not potential suffering or the clutter of the world. Look to Jesus as He is revealed in the Bible.

Here He is referred to as an Apostle and High Priest. As an apostle, He was sent by God (for that is what the word means, a “sent one”) to be God’s representative among us. As our High Priest, he is our representative before God the Father. In other words, He is perfectly suited to preserve His people. Look to Him and live. Look to Him and stop drifting.

In the end of this paragraph the author gives a warning, saying that if you do not hold fast to Jesus, that is evidence you never really were a true Christian. What about you? Are you drifting? Are the things of the world (its fame, money, stuff) of greater value to you than Jesus? Are you living like the world sexually? Does the world’s approval matter more to you than God’s? I can’t imagine what you think the world has ever done for you. It has certainly never desired your good.

Friend, if you are drifting along with the world, look to Jesus and live. He will accept all who row their boat to His shoreline. Tired arms will find rest on His sandy shores. Good harbour awaits. Consider Jesus.
